Transparency and documentation

Certification makes the difference

In the project, we work closely with the end users and industry to ensure full transparency and compliance in the value chain, through documentation and regular audits at each step and for each process.

We do this by training stakeholders in proper – and often more extensive – data recording and document handling that meets the necessary needs for transparency. To ensure compliance the local partner, Kabadiwalla Connect, will conduct random audits, and be in dialogue with the stakeholders on weekly basis.

To further build trustworthiness into the project processes, the project will be certified under Zero Plastic Ocean’s Social+ Ocean-Bound Program (OBP). This certification focuses on plastic that would end up in the ocean in particular, as well as recognising the often informal workers who are part of the value chain by setting standards for training, price per kg., and protective gear provision all focused towards improving the livelihoods of these individuals.

By building in transparency and certification as part of the value-chain, the project can trustworthily document where the plastic comes from, and the conditions of the workers who recovered it. Further, the project also wants to showcase that including rigorous documentation and ethical considerations is part of a sustainable and financially healthy business case for plastic waste recycling.
